Elementary PTO Update!

WOW, what a great turn out for Family Fun Night at all three buildings and we appreciate all the help from teachers, PTO members and most of all the families who attended the evening event! The Education Station had some summer scholastic books out for viewing during Family Fun Night and the order forms for those books will be coming home with children on April 26, 2012 so watch for that information. These orders will come home with your student the last week of school.

For all the families that ordered yearbooks this school year, they will be coming home with your student around the second week of May. Please look for a survey that will be coming home with the yearbook to be completed and returned to school. We need this input to determine if this will be an annual project or not, so we ask you to please return this form.

We have Secretaries/Administrative Professionals Day on April 27th! Please remember your school secretary with a BIG thank you for all they do throughout the school year. During the first week of May we will be recognizing our Teachers Week May 7th - 11th so they can be watching for some fun extra surprises throughout that week. The entire PTO Organization would like to say THANK YOU to all of the STAFF at all of our elementary buildings for all they do for us and our children.

We would like to remind all parents that the schools are still collecting box tops, milk caps, and Pizza Ranch pizza wheels to help fund special projects, field trips, and support the classrooms requests for extra funding for projects during the school year. These items do add up quickly and we really appreciate that you take the time to send them to school with your student.

HAPPY SPING!

Cursive Handwriting

Cursive handwriting has been taught for many years but now it might not even be in the school curriculum. Franklin Elementary is still teaching cursive but it isn’t the same for Sioux City schools. Mr. Dirk Bak, a third grade teacher at Franklin Elementary believes it’s a skill that still needs to be taught. His two main reasons for thinking this are cursive helps fine motor skills and it will help children in the future. He simply states, “If you can write it, you can read it.” He also believes it gives people that individual and unique way of writing.
