P a g e | 47 PSYCHOLOGY 1 (NCAA) Course Length: 1 Semester Credits: 1 Elective/Required: Required Option Grade Level: 11, 12 This elective course will study the mind and behavior of individuals. You will have the opportunity to investigate and analyze current research from the best investigators in the field. As a class, we will be conducting hands-on labs to create our own research projects. A series of mini research papers/projects will be required for this course. PSYCHOLOGY 2 (NCAA) Course Length: 1 Semester Credits: 1 Prerequisite: Psychology Grade Level: 11, 12 This continuation of Psychology at the junior/senior level will focus on a more in-depth look at some interesting topics. Subjects will include consciousness, memory, intelligence, sociocultural influences on psychology, personality, and abnormal psychology. One research paper will be required. You must be a junior or senior and have already passed Psychology 1 in order to enroll in this course. SOCIOLOGY (NCAA) Course Length: 1 Semester Credits: 1 Elective/Required: Required Option Grade Level: 11, 12 You will have the opportunity to learn about many of the major topics facing society today. We will analyze the five major institutions of sociology - family, education, government, economics, and religion. The course will leave you with a better understanding of people and society. You will do a research paper/presentation for this class. VOTING AND ELECTIONS Course Length: 1 Semester Credits: 1 Elective/Required: Required Option Grade Level: 10, 11, 12 In this course, students will gain an understanding of the electoral process at the national, state, and local levels. They will also gain insight into the historical voting patterns within the United States. WORLD HISTORY (NCAA) Course Length: 1 Year Credits: 2 Grade Level: 9 This is a required survey course, which covers World History from the Stone Age to the present. The course is based upon a multi-categorical approach with emphasis on key concepts dealing with the development of world governments, societies, and economies. A basic understanding and appreciation of the development and maturation of world cultures is essential for one’s understanding of current world events. The students are responsible for successful completion of daily work, which includes worksheets, note taking, map work, and class participation. The students also generate authentic work through group research presentations and individual research papers. Students are required to successfully participate in author-prepared tests, quizzes over reading material, and teacher-generated tests.
