FAMILY LIVING

Family Living is an elective course designed to help students learn about and improve family relationships now

and in the future. Communication skills will be a vital part in the class as we cover units on choosing a lifestyle

and marriage partner, building and blending a marriage, balancing work and family, types of families and their

special problems, decision making, divorce, family stress, aging, death and dying.

FASHION MECHANDISING

This class is based on all aspects of the apparel industry. Activities include computer style analysis, computer virtual

makeover, window displays, fabric chemical testing, tours, guest speakers, and interviews with business people

and the media. No sewing is required.

FOODS & NUTRITION

This class is basically a laboratory and consumer class. After studying the background of each type of food,

students will prepare either suggested foods or foods of their own choice. Food preparation techniques and

safety and sanitation are emphasized. Major units are designed around different food categories and will include

food careers. Evaluation will be written and performance based, including technique and final product.

HOUSING

This is an elective course where you will study the many aspects of housing. Units covered include housing

styles, interior design as it relates to the elements and principles of design, floor plans, purchasing furniture and

evaluating the basic home. This course will help you understand your housing needs, develop your own ideas

and have confidence when dealing with housing information in your future. We visit several local homes for tours

and plan decorating for three rooms in a home.

SINGLE LIVING

Single Living is a comprehensive class designed to help you meet the challenges of daily life with confidence. It

provides you with the basic information you need to balance work and family life in today’s world. It will help you

develop a range of skills related to communication, finding housing, clothing care, financial skills and food &

nutrition.

TEXTILE ARTS

This course places an emphasis on basic sewing techniques. Weekly demonstrations of required techniques

serve as building blocks to a self-selected project. Techniques of the class will include machine embroidery,

applique, cut-work, iron-on transfers, tie dye, painting, bead work, garment making, knitting, crocheting,

household décor, quilting, etc.
