SPECIAL CLASSES

(Special Placement Classes)

APPRENTICESHIP

Course Length:

Successful completion of E.B.C.E., C average or better in all classes and no attendance contract

on file

Grade Level:

This is an elective course available to students who have satisfactorily completed two years of training in a

specific career field. Third- year students may apply for apprenticeship training in one of the local shops or

businesses in the community. They will receive apprenticeship training for 2 class periods per day and will

also have two class periods of related instruction each week. An

Individual Career Plan

is required for any

student to be enrolled in this program. Students in this program will receive pay from their employer for work

done during the school day as part of this program.

E.B.C.E.-EXPERIENCED BASED CAREER EDUCATION

Students will begin the class with an extensive self-assessment which will help them select careers of interest.

Students will prepare for their career experience by studying self-management skills related to the workplace,

appropriate dress, language, confidentiality, preparing the appropriate paperwork, researching their chosen

careers, and working to improve communication skills. Actual onsite training will occur in the Internship and

Apprenticeship classes.

Extended Learning Program (ELP) is designed for exceptional students to continue their individual education

plan. The course is based on the Autonomous Learner Program Model in which students design their own in-

depth study and work independently until completion. ELP may be repeated for a maximum of 4 years and for

4 elective credits. Students must be assigned all eight periods of the day. Students taking ELP will be

assigned to the library to work on projects, unless they are taking seven classes plus physical education.

Applications are available in the guidance office and may be completed with Mrs. Rust. Completed

applications need to be turned in to the Principal’s office. A committee consisting of the counselors and

principals will determine enrollment. Students identified as Talented and Gifted will need to complete the

application, submit a research sample, and acquire two teacher recommendations.

INTERNSHIP
