P a g e | 44 GENERAL SCIENCE (NCAA) Course Length: 1 Year Credits: 2 Grade Level: 9 General Science is required during the freshman year. The laboratory setting will correlate the physical sciences, physics and chemistry. Chemistry topics will include periodic table history, chemical bonds, mixtures, solutions, and organic compounds. Physics topics included are motion, energy, light, work and sound. Through topical approach, the students will gain a background in above topics that will prepare them for future sciences. INTEGRATED PHYSICS Course Length: 1 Year Credits: 2 Elective/Required: Required Option Prerequisites: Pre-Algebra, General Science Grade Level: 11, 12 Integrated Physics is a hands-on laboratory course which emphasizes practical rather than theoretical physics. This course is designed as a lead in to technical training at two-year community colleges for many areas of technology, engineering, technical trades, and industry. Students who plan to go into fields such as auto repair, plumbing, carpentry, nursing, HVAC, manufacturing, farming, and many others will benefit from this course. Physics is studied by investigating mechanical, fluid, electrical, and thermal energy systems. Topics studied include force, work, rate, resistance, energy, and power. The course includes demonstrations, math skill labs, computer activities and many hands-on laboratory activities. INTRODUCTORY COLLEGE BIOLOGY - BIO105 Course Length: 1 Semester Credits: LCHS 1; WITCC 4 Grade Level: 11, 12 Prerequisite : Biology is strongly recommended. This is a combined lecture and lab course that is a biological concepts survey for non-science majors. This course will include units of (1) Cellular basis of Life, (2) Principles of Inheritance, (3) Principles of Evolution, (4) Diversity of Life, and (5) Ecology and Behavior. Topics covered include biochemistry, molecular and cellular biology, genetics, evolution, plant and animal classification, structure and function, and ecology. PHYSICS (NCAA) Course Length: 1 Year Credits: 2 Elective/Required: Required Option Prerequisite: Algebra 2 (C or better) strongly recommended Grade Level: 11, 12 Physics is an elective course for junior or senior students who feel that some knowledge of the physical sciences is needed in our highly technical and scientific world. Students will spend time in the well-furnished laboratory investigating and verifying fundamental principles of physics. The graphing calculator and the latest in computer technology are used to compliment experiments, research, and simulations. Students planning a career relating to any area of science, engineering, teaching (including elementary), industry, electronics, medicine, nursing, medical technology, agriculture and many vocational areas will find physics beneficial.
