P a g e | 51 INTERNSHIP Course Length: 1 Semester Credits: 2 Prerequisite: Successful completion of E.B.C.E., C average or better in all classes, no attendance contract on file Grade Level: 11, 12 This is an elective course available to students who have satisfactorily completed two years of training in a specific career field. They will receive internship training for at least two hours per day and will also have two class periods of related instruction each week. An Individual Career Plan is required for any student to be enrolled in this program. The student will not receive pay for work but will receive credit. MANUFACTURING EXPLORATION Course Length: 1 Semester (3 Periods) Credits: 3 Grade Level: 11, 12 (Must be 17 years old prior to the first day of class) This course will consist of 15-day internships with school-established community partners. Students will earn their OSHA certificate and go through the Iowa Workforce Trainings prior to their jobsite experience. Throughout the semester, the students will report to the classroom for continued work force education. The class may also take field trips to see other employers and WITCC. CERTIFIED NURSING ASSISTANT (Must attend meeting PRIOR to enrollment) ADVANCED NURSE AIDE HSC178 Course Length: 1 Semester Credits: 2 LCHS; 4 WITCC Prerequisite: HSC173 and HSC174 Grade level: Must be 16 years of age to enroll This course is designed as an optional additional unit of instruction to be given following the approved 75-hour Nurse Aide course. The 75-hour Nurse Aide course meets the OBRA (Nursing Home Reform) requirements for nurse aides who work in long term care. This additional material provides the learner with content emphasizing the knowledge, attitude, and skills necessary for providing patient care in the acute setting. NURSE AIDE THEORY HSC173 Course Length: 1 Semester Credits: 1 LCHS; 3 WITCC Co-requisite: HSC174 Nurse Aide Clinical Grade Level: Must be 16 years of age to enroll This course is designed to provide the student with the fundamentals of patient care in the health environment. Students learn basic anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, meeting human needs, safety measures, infection control, and physical care. NURSE AIDE CLINICAL HSC174 Course Length: 1 Semester Credits: 1 LCHS; 1 WITCC Co-requisite: HSC 173 Nurse Aide Theory This course expands the students’ knowledge of tasks, assessments, and observations of patients in the health care environment. Students develop technical skills specific to complex needs of the patients.
